Binge-Drinking Reading Response

after reading this article i realized it was weird that our collrge campus didnt have any posters or campaigns up about the college drinking that goes on here in Staten Island. Although we do not have dorms or things of that nature in CSI our college drinking takes place in actual bars and clubs or peoples houses or school parks, anywhere – which depending how you look at it may be worse than actual collrge dorm room binges.

I feel CSI should post some anti-binge drinking posters up around campus just to see how our students may react.

i especially liked the campaign featuring “Dirk”, these campaigns show pictures of certain negative consequences surrounding heavy alcohol intake. In Ohio they actually have tv commercials directed towards this behAVIOR. Maybe iyts me and im not catching these things here but it seems like we do not have enough anti-binge drinking campaigns here.

however i already knew that when it comes to preventative behavior young people have a sick denial chip implanted in their brains. they do not feel anything horrible can happen to them. Long term problems of drinking are way too far away for young people to even grasp. they just do not care enough.

i think agood idea is to maybe have people their own age the focus of the campaigns, like the Ohio ” dirk” campaign, or real actual people showing alcohol has negatively affected them. the more they see that young people are at risk too the more they will embed the image in their heads subconcsiously.

The University of Delaware’s campaign however did not strike me as effective. It smply stated that the students should be fed up with being perceived as a party school. And a picture of a messy dorm room as thre bait? come on! not evere enough to impact anyone. A messy room and some puke is easy the students need to see something worse, something harder and more in yoyr face terrifying.

That’s all I have to say about this article… for now….

Nike Ad … Expressions of Individuality

In terms of individuality and expressing who you are, I cant think of a better brand than Nike sneakers. Their commercials are all about the consumer as an individual – unique, but athletic.

This ad tells the consumer that you can be an award-winning cycler, a tennis pro, a baseball great, a basketball player and still wear a great sneaker loved by EVERYONE. This ad expresses the individuality of the consumer as well as, the idea that all types of athletes will benefit by wearing a great show – a Nike branded sneaker.

Everyone is different, everyone likes different sports and thats ok. but what Nike does in their ads ( and this particular one) is capitalize on the common ground all athletes have in common – the need for a good product, while also expressing respct for their consumers’ individulaism.

Editing and Consicion Exercise…. “I Think I hate Marx”

This article is boring…  After reading  “Alienation in America” is dry.
What is the Madison Ave. Technique? Did I miss something? What does alienation have to do with advertising and publicity?

I understood the example in the beginning of the article, where the photographer captured a humans moment of death, this “what’s in it for me?” idea does exist in many people though it hurts to realize. I want to justify that by saying everyone on Earth gets 1 chance to live their life without knowing when their time will run out – is it so bad that a persons loss can be another persons gain? I think not. You have to make the most of things you experience whether it’s yours or someone elses.

This idea remained in my mind throughout the article. One life, one chance. I don’t  know why…..

Back to the article… I hope there won’t be anymore marx stuff or if there is I need someone to help me understand the correlation btwn marx and advertising.

disregard my horrible pictures lol

wow. im terrible . ok ill scan the whole page and post it up.

Crystal Light ads in women’s magazines..

I noticed a few Crystal Light ads in certain women’s magazines, such as Vogue, Allure and US Weekly, that totally portrayed women as VAIN creatures constantly worried about they way they look and the size of their bodies. I took a few pictures of the ad i will be uploading them soon…. once i do that i will continue this blog … but if you happen to see the ads …. feel free to leave a comment on what your initial reaction was.

article on sexuality in advertisng

I find sexuality and sexist overtones in ads all the time… (Example, nicktropolis site logo, land o lakes girl) – however after reading this article I saw sex everywhere I looked. The media – all medium included- is obsessed with sex. And so is our culture and society. In advertising this question constantly arises ” Does advertising mirror society or vice versa?” I think it is both. Advertising evolves with society just as society helps change advertising ethics.

Things that are shown now in ads were definitely not shown in the ads from the past. Our society has evolved to allow less restrictions and more sexuality. A lot more t & a, as opposed to the hush hush way it was in the 1950s.

I mean its not a myth, sex sells. Or you can say sex definitely gets your attention when your flipping through the pages of a magazine.

I think I hate marx

Oh my god can you seriously murder by boredom… I think after reading this Alienation in America it is quite a regal possibility. Dry.
What exactly is the Madison Ave. Technique? Am I missing something? What I need to know is what does alienation have to do with advertising and publicity?

I followed the example in the beginning of the article, where the photographer captured a humans moment of death, this “what’s in it for me?” idea does exist in a majority of people though it hurts to say it. I want to justify that by saying everyone on this planet gets 1 chance to live their own life without knowing when their time is going to run out – is it so bad that one persons loss can be another persons gain? I think not. You got to make the most of things you experience whether it is directly yours or someone elses.

This is the central thought that ran through my head while reading this article even well after the 1st page. One life, one chance. And I have no idea why…..

Anyway back to the article… I hope there won’t be anymore marx stuff or if there is I need someone to break down the correlation btwn marx and the world of advertising.

Land O Lakes girl

land o lakes woman

ok , so i know this may seem as if im kind of obsessed with sexual manipulations in advertising but this Land O Lakes girl really stuck out in my mind when i reached in my refrigerator to make myself some FATTTTENING brownies. lol.

its like shes offering us the butter from her bosom, or her heart. it catches our eyes because it is right in a very focal place – a sexual place  – her chest. our eyes are automatically drawn to that – it plays on our arousals. What do you guys think? i really want to hear what u think of this ad.

Nicktropolis website logo …

i cant actually upload the logo but i will include the link and i really URGE you to just check out the logo for Nickolodeon’s newwest Kid’s website  called : ” Nicktropolis”.

Is it me or does this logo seem to look somewhat like a ” phallic” symbol??  quite disturbing, no? This is a children’s website. CHILDRENS.

I know sex sells but what is this ad/logo saying about sexuality in advertising? Is this the way advertising manipulates us? Is this a marketing hidden message to ploy us …. or did they really not realize that their symbol resembled a phallic….
